Technology: An Essential Part of Learning!
Lanier Electronics Group, Inc. Continues Technology Upgrades at Prince George’s County Schools; Work Begins on 20 New Schools
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Parents might remember when VCRs and PowerPoint presentations represented cutting-edge technology in their classrooms. Grandparents might recall their teachers proudly wheeling in those clunky overhead projectors. Compared to today’s classrooms, those once state-of-the-art learning tools seem as antiquated as the Model-T Ford. Given the tools, today’s teacher can pull resources from the internet; tailor lesson plans to the needs of individual students, monitor their progress and answer questions electronically; and employ interactive smartboards for their classroom presentations.
Lanier Electronics Group, Inc. has been working to ensure that thousands of Prince George’s County teachers and their students have access to the latest learning tools in their schools.
Earlier this year, the minority-owned, technology solutions company completed a significant retrofit of 30 county schools. The locally owned company has now begun work on 20 additional county school buildings, opening the world of wireless learning to more than 20,000 elementary, middle, and high school students. (See the list of schools at the end of this release.)
The project adds wireless network capacity throughout each building, along with the associated wiring, electrical service and access points.
Educators say the enhanced capabilities of today’s high-tech classrooms allow teachers to adapt their lessons to accommodate diverse learning styles; boost student motivation and significantly enhance the material being taught. More than half of the nation’s colleges list similar wireless upgrades as their top technology priority for the 2012-2013 school year.
“As a member of this community, I know how important it is that our students are prepared to compete in the global economy of the 21st century, and I am proud to equip our schools with the technology infrastructure they need to do the job,” says Darrell E. Lanier, president and CEO of Lanier Electronics Group, Inc..
